WASHINGTON, DC, March 27, 2024—Cara V. James, President and CEO of Grantmakers In Health (GIH), has been appointed as a voting member of the District of Columbia Commission on Health Equity by Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser.
“I am grateful to Mayor Bowser for this opportunity to improve the health and well-being of my community,” said James. “I look forward to working with the other members of the commission and city stakeholders to create a healthier, more equitable future for all DC residents.”
The District of Columbia Commission on Health Equity was established in 2016 to examine health inequities in the District, with an emphasis on the social determinants of health, including structural and institutional root causes, and a special focus on vulnerable populations, as well as to produce reports on its findings, and advise the Department of Health, the Council, and the Mayor on the best ways to advance and achieve health equity. The commission consists of nine voting members, including James.
