Kenney Miller
2019 Dr. Wendy J. Wolf Health Leadership Award
The Maine Health Access Foundation (MeHAF) has named Kenney Miller, Executive Director of Health Equity Alliance, as its 2019 Dr. Wendy J. Wolf Health Leadership Award recipient. Mr. Miller received the prestigious award at MeHAF’s board of trustees meeting on October 10. The award includes a $10,000 grant for Health Equity Alliance (HEAL). The annual awardee is selected through an open nomination process and decisions are made by a committee made up of MeHAF Trustees and Community Advisory Committee members.
Mr. Miller has served as the Executive Director of HEAL since June of 2011. The mission of HEAL is facilitating collaboration, education, advocacy, and action to empower marginalized communities to improve their health and well-being and affect social and cultural change. Mr. Miller is also the CofFounder of the Maine Harm Reduction Alliance, and the Maine Coalition for Sensible Drug Policy, through which he propelled the philosophy of ‘harm reduction’ to center-stage and amplified the need to better integrate principles of compassion, science, and pragmatism into Maine’s drug policy. He has co-founded several state-level health-focused conferences and helped jump-start numerous collaborations and projects to benefit Maine’s most marginalized communities including people living with HIV, people who use drugs, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people with a history of incarceration, and others.
The Dr. Wendy J. Wolf Health Leadership Award will be made annually until 2026 to honor the legacy of MeHAF’s founding CEO, Wendy Wolf, who stepped down in October 2016. The award honors her 15-year tenure by recognizing the exceptional leadership and achievements of nonprofit leaders working to promote access to quality health care and improve the health of Maine people, especially those who are uninsured and underserved.
