Mary Black Foundation RFP: December 2016

The Mary Black Foundation announced five funding opportunities for 2017.  

  • Community Health Fund
    Responsive Grants: The foundation will accept applications from nonprofit and/or governmental agencies working to improve health and wellness for the people and communities of Spartanburg County. 
    The deadline is January 15, 2017. This is the only time in 2017 that Community Health Fund applications will be accepted. The application can be found here.

  • Early Childhood Development
    Responsive Grants: The foundation will accept applications from nonprofit and/or governmental agencies working to increase kindergarten readiness in Spartanburg County, particularly those addressing:
    • Increase awareness and public support for early childhood development and opportunities to improve school readiness.
    • Increase the availability of high quality child care and other preschool programs.
    • Increase programs and services to ensure children birth to age five meet developmental and educational milestones.
    • Increase evidence-based education and skill-building to help parents support early child development and learning.
    • Increase evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention strategies used in schools, community-based organizations, and medical facilities.

The deadline is January 15, 2017. Early Childhood Development applications will also be accepted on August 15, 2017. The application can be found here.

  • Connect, an Adolescent Health Initiative: With funding through the federal Office of Adolescent Health, the foundation will accept applications from nonprofit and/or governmental organizations working to decrease teen pregnancy and increase positive outcomes for youth in Spartanburg County. The deadline is February 24, 2017. This is the only time in 2017 that Connect applications will be accepted. The application can be found here.
  • Healthy Families Initiative: The foundation is launching a five-year initiative to expand Triple P, an evidence-based parent education program, and will accept applications from nonprofit and/or governmental agencies looking to increase parental knowledge and skills by implementing Triple P. The deadline is January 31, 2017. This is the only time in 2017 that Healthy Families Initiative applications will be accepted. The application can be found here.

  • Healthy Eating and Active Living
    Responsive Grants: The foundation will accept applications from nonprofit and/or governmental agencies working to decrease obesity in Spartanburg County, those addressing:
    • Increasing awareness and public support for healthy eating and active living.
    • Increasing and enhancing access to and availability of places that promote healthy eating and active living.
    • Increasing programs and services to support healthy eating and active living.
    • Increasing evidence-based physical education and nutrition education in schools, afterschool programs, and other youth serving organizations.

The deadline is January 15, 2017. Healthy Eating and Active Living applications will also be accepted on August 15, 2017. The application can be found here.
