Northwest Health Foundation (NWHF) seeks a dynamic and inspiring new president to guide its path to improving health in Oregon and Southwest Washington by engaging with communities to develop and amplify their political power. Reporting to the board of directors and working in partnership with staff, the new president will lead the continued transformation of the foundation’s strategic direction by forging new partnerships regionally and nationally and serving as partner and catalyzer for community-based organizations focused on changing policies and systems.

Mari Kuraishi
The Jessie Ball duPont Fund has selected Mari Kuraishi, Cofounder and President of GlobalGiving, to be its next president.
GlobalGiving is a global crowdfunding platform for vetted, community-led organizations. Since its founding in 2002, the company has supported more than $340 million in giving by more than 814,000 donors to more than 20,000 projects worldwide. Under Ms. Kuraishi’s leadership, GlobalGiving was cited by Forbes as one of the “Ten Startups Changing the World,” and named a Top 10 place to work in DC on Glassdoor.com because of its commitment to core values, talent development, and clear success metrics.
Prior to cofounding GlobalGiving, Ms. Kuraishi led the Corporate Strategy Group at the World Bank where she was responsible for setting corporate priorities and engendering business innovation for an international financial institution dedicated to fighting poverty worldwide; and was the country anchor and officer for the bank’s Russia program, where she coordinated a sovereign lending program at its Washington, DC, headquarters.
She is Chair of the board of directors for GuideStar, USA; Chair of the board of directors for DataKind; Chair of the board of directors for APOPO US; and a member of the board of advisors for the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Harvard University.
Kuraishi will begin her duties with the Jessie Ball duPont Fund in January 2019.

Chief Strategy and Impact Officer
The Blue Shield of California Foundation is seeking a Chief Strategy and Impact Officer to support the foundation in its mission to build lasting and equitable solutions that make California the healthiest state in the nation and end domestic violence. This position serves to help integrate the foundation’s grantmaking strategy, programmatic investments, communications, and learning and evaluation. The Chief Strategy and Impact Officer will assume primary responsibility for developing, delivering, and assessing all aspects of the foundation’s knowledge management systems and provide facilitative leadership in the implementation of the foundation’s strategic plan.

Kathy Higgins
After 31 years at Blue Cross NC Foundation, Kathy Higgins has decided to retire as the foundation’s President and CEO at the end of this year.
Over the past three decades, Ms. Higgins helped lead the establishment of the Blue Cross NC’s community relations department and the foundation; helped create Be Active North Carolina, Be Active Kids, and the Healthy Community Institute; acquired the Breast Cancer Button Chair; represented the foundation’s work with the Clinton Global Initiative; traversed 650 miles across the state by foot to promote good health; and – most significantly – helped lead the investment of more than $130 million in foundation grants into North Carolina communities, improving access to health care, supporting healthy living, promoting community-centered health, and enhancing nonprofit organizational capacity and leadership.
Ms. Higgins plans to spend time with family and do some long anticipated traveling. She is then also eager to continue her efforts impacting community health issues across the state and country.
Foundation Vice President Danielle Breslin will provide interim leadership until a new President and CEO has been identified.

The foundation welcomed P. Kristen Bennett, Esq., an attorney with the law firm of Gawthrop Greenwood, PC; Helen J. Espenshade, Esq., an attorney with Lamb McErlane; and Scott Neumann, Eternal Affairs Manager for PECO Energy to its board of directors. Selected for their professional expertise and commitment to the health and wellness of the greater Coatesville, Pennsylvania area, Ms. Bennett, Ms. Espenshade, and Mr. Neumann join a dynamic group of individuals led by Board Chair Jason D. Alexander, MPP, and Vice Chair Margaret C. Rivello, MBA. Their voices, along with those of the foundation’s other board members, stakeholders, and community residents, are critical this year as it embarks on an extensive and inclusive strategic planning process to determine its direction and focus through 2022 and beyond.
