Oxiris Barbot

United Hospital Fund

United Hospital Fund (UHF) announced the appointment of Oxiris Barbot, MD, as its president and CEO. She is the first woman to lead UHF since its founding in 1879 and brings more than 25 years of experience in public health and health care delivery to her new role.

Dr. Barbot was recently Senior Fellow for Public Health and Social Justice at The JPB Foundation and an adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. From 2018 until 2020, she served as Commissioner of Health and Mental Hygiene of the City of New York, the first Latina woman to hold the position.

Previously, she was First Deputy Commissioner at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene from 2014 until 2018, served as Commissioner of the Baltimore City Health Department from 2010 until 2014, and was Medical Director of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Office of School Health from 2003 until 2010.

Dr. Barbot is a graduate of Yale University and received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She completed her pediatric residency at George Washington University’s Children’s National Medical Center.

Paul DiLorenzo

Salem Health and Wellness Foundation

The Salem Health and Wellness Foundation announced the appointment of its new Executive Director, Paul DiLorenzo. Mr. DiLorenzo will follow Brenda Goins who has served in this role for the past 15 years. During that time, the foundation has grown and supported many projects that have improved the health and well-being outcomes for the citizens of Salem County, New Jersey.

Mr. DiLorenzo comes to the foundation after four decades in human services and child welfare. He began his career as a caseworker with families in the child welfare system. After that, he held a series of senior-level administrative roles in state and local government, the nonprofit sector, and in project management for federally funded multi-state efforts. He was also a Senior Director for Strategic Consulting at Casey Family Programs, the country’s largest foundation devoted solely to the improvement of the child welfare system.

Mr. DiLorenzo  has been on multiple boards and advisory groups, as well as commissions that have developed systems improvement strategies. He has published extensively and has been a speaker at many conferences and professional events throughout the country. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Child Welfare League of America.

Carolyn Wang Kong

Asian Pacific Fund

The Asian Pacific Fund announced that Carolyn Wang Kong will be its new President & Executive Director, effective November 1, 2022. Ms. Kong comes to the fund with significant leadership experience, management expertise, and a deep understanding of the community which we believe will successfully guide the Asian Pacific Fund in its next phase of growth. She has served in operational leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente and will be transitioning from her current position as the Chief Program Director at the Blue Shield of California Foundation.

Over the past year, the fund faced dramatic challenges in meeting the needs of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community due to the pandemic and a surge in anti-Asian harassment and hate. It more than doubled its grantmaking to support nonprofits serving the community’s most vulnerable members and increased the visibility of the Asian Pacific Fund’s work nationally. With Ms. Kong’s 20 years of deeply informed work dedicated to issues such as health equity, domestic violence, language access, and mental wellness for underserved communities, her leadership will amplify its philanthropy and impact on the well-being of the AAPI community.

Dr. Lourdes J. Rodríguez

David Rockefeller Fund

The David Rockefeller Fund announced Lourdes J. Rodríguez, DrPH as its next Chief Executive Officer.

Her appointment comes at an important moment in the evolution of the David Rockefeller Fund. There is a natural generational evolution taking place, with a majority of the family seats on the board occupied by the founders’ grandchildren, their spouses/partners, and an increasing number of non-family board members.

In entering this position, Dr. Rodríguez will play a crucial role in examining the socioeconomic systems that have traditionally provided the underpinnings of formal philanthropy—exploring how issues of power and equity overlap with philanthropic practice while also actively defining and building new models for the foundation to be more just and inclusive.

Dr. Rodríguez previously served as a Senior Program Officer with Austin, Texas-based St. David’s Foundation, one of the country’s largest health foundations, investing more than $80 million annually across Central Texas. Specifically, Dr. Rodríguez’s work has centered on creating the community conditions needed to reverse poor maternal mortality and morbidity outcomes. Prior to joining St. David’s Foundation, Dr. Rodríguez served as Associate Professor and Director of Community-Driven Initiatives at the Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin and as part of the leadership team and community engagement committee for the Planet Texas 2050 grand challenge.

She also worked as Program Officer at the New York State Health Foundation, co-directed the Urbanism and the Built Environment track in the Department of Sociomedical Sciences at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, and served as community liaison for the Columbia Center for Youth Violence Prevention.
