Georgia Health Initiative: July 2025
The Georgia Health Initiative released a new report titled “The Public Health Emergency Medicaid Unwinding: Georgia’s Redeterminations Experience,” which explores promising practices and lessons learned during the unwinding of Georgia’s Medicaid coverage. It also highlights ways these findings can support ongoing efforts to strengthen health coverage access in Georgia.

Roundtable Discussion for Health Funders’ Policy Staff
A growing number of health funders employ staff whose responsibilities focus exclusively or predominantly on public policy engagement. Do you lead your organization’s policy or government affairs work? During our roundtable discussion we connected with peers, explored pressing issues, and shared experiences to engage communities in setting funders’ policy priorities. Jennifer Tolbert, deputy director of KFF’s Program on Medicaid and the Uninsured and the director of State Health Policy and Data at KFF, joined the call to speak about how the provisions in the 2025 budget reconciliation law will likely affect states and other policy trends related to Medicaid and state budgets.
GIH Health Policy Exchange 2025
The GIH Health Policy Exchange provides policy-engaged funders with information on current issues, access to leading thinkers, and connections with grantmaking peers. This year’s theme is Protecting the Freedom to Give. Against a backdrop of recent federal funding cuts, executive orders, and threats to philanthropy, it is more important than ever for health funders to educate, advocate, and collaborate to support the people, places, and things that are important to us. This year’s Health Policy Exchange will be held November 18 – 21, 2025, at The Westin Arlington in Arlington, VA.

Infosheet: Key Provisions in the House-passed Reconciliation Bill—H.R. 1, the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’
An infosheet provides analysis of key health, philanthropy, and nonprofit provisions in H.R. 1, the budget reconciliation bill passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on May 22, 2025. Changes include an estimated $715 billion reduction in federal Medicaid spending including work requirements, new eligibility requirements to the Affordable Care Act that will reduce access to the ACA’s Advanced Premium Tax Credits, $300 billion in reductions to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, an excise tax on foundations, and new authority for the Secretary of the Treasury to remove the tax-exempt status of nonprofits the administration deems as “terrorist support organizations.”
