The MFH Board governs with a focus on advancing the Foundation’s mission to eliminate the underlying causes of health inequities, transform systems, and enable individuals and communities to thrive. In addition to approving strategic direction and overseeing fiduciary responsibilities, the Board plays a critical role in ensuring that all decisions align with the Foundation’s core values of Equity, Trust, Humility, Integrity, and Commitment.
“Our Board of Directors is one of the most powerful ways we stay connected to our mission and vision,” said Dwayne Proctor, MFH President and CEO. “These new members reflect professional excellence that will ensure sound governance for MFH, not just now, but for our future.”

Michael Galper and Tara Pak
UniHealth Foundation
Michael Galper, MPH, CPA, has been elected to the UniHealth Foundation board of directors. Mr. Galper is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and teaches courses in health care finance, accounting and operations.
Mr. Galper is a retired partner of PwC’s Health Care Consulting Practice. During his tenure at PwC, he held leadership positions in Global Advisory Tools and Methods, West Coast Health Practice, and National Health Insurance Practice. He has worked with clients such as integrated health systems, managed care companies, hospitals, physician groups, and academic medical centers, assisting with financial and operational performance and regulatory compliance.
Mr. Galper has previously served on the Board of Achievable Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and Sycamores, a Child and Family Mental Health Services organization.
In addition, Tara Pak joined the foundation in October 2025 as a Program Manager. She comes to UniHealth from PATH, a statewide homeless services and housing agency, where she most recently served as the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships. In this role, Ms. Pak oversaw government, foundation, and corporate grants spanning San Diego to Santa Clara counties in California. During her tenure, PATH’s operating budget grew from $38 million to $150 million, increasing by 295 percent over nearly nine years.
Ms. Pak will collaborate with community-based organizations, hospitals, and clinics to spark innovation and partnership within UniHealth’s convening space. Susan Shumaker
Cone Health Foundation
Susan Shumaker will retire from her role as president of Cone Health Foundation (CHF). As she reflected on all the incredible people that she has met over the years and the substantial impact of CHF’s work in the community, the word that kept resurfacing for Ms. Shumaker was “gratitude.” She expressed gratitude for the staff at CHF both past and present; the board members who have been partners in this work; her colleagues at Cone Health, along with all the partners who have shared in this work.
The foundation remains focused on the tagline that was adopted in 2023 at the start of their shift to community-driven philanthropy: “Driven by equity. Guided by community.” And from the learnings of the seminal Greensboro Community Report, she believes the CHF team will continue to respond to the expressed needs of the community while being attentive to the ongoing and emergent community needs stemming from shifts in the political climate.
