Almost two thirds of Texans say they skipped or postponed some form of health care in the past year because of cost, while major health concerns like diabetes and obesity continue to grow. Those are just a few of the results from the annual Episcopal Health Foundation (EHF) statewide poll on health care access and affordability in Texas.
Key findings include:
- Diabetes, obesity among Texans’ top health-related problems
- 63 percent of Texans say they skipped health care due to cost
- 46 percent say it’s difficult to afford health care
- 41 percent say they had difficulty paying medical bills
- 94 percent say that their communities lack at least one non-medical resource that impacts health
- 70 percent see opportunities for the state to enhance health care access for low-income residents
- 69 percent have a favorable view of Medicaid in Texas
