Con Alma Health Foundation (Santa Fe, NM)
Nominations for Con Alma Health Foundation’s 2021 Hero of Health will close Friday, October 22, 2021. Each year the foundation honors individuals who are passionate about improving health in New Mexico. Due to the extraordinary challenges of the past year and a half, it wants to devote its health hero award this year to someone who has persevered through pandemic challenges to lift up others in need, to support people’s mental, emotional, spiritual, or physical health.
Heroes can work in any field, and this year’s focus will be on unsung heroes, including teachers, volunteers, custodians, child care staff, nursing home aides, food distribution workers, bus drivers, support staff at hospitals, clinics and schools, and other essential workers who have contributed to New Mexico’s well-being.
Con Alma will donate $1,000 to a New Mexico nonprofit of the honoree’s choosing. This is the 13th year that the foundation has honored individuals who are making a difference. Last year, Con Alma recognized Leroy “Buster” Silva, community coordinator of Notah Begay III Foundation.

National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (Washington, DC)
National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy (NCRP) announced that the 2021 winners of its #NCRPImpact Awards are: the Nellie Mae Education Foundation (“Changing Course” Award for Incorporating Feedback), the California Wellness Foundation (“Get Up, Stand Up” Award for Rapid-Response Grantmaking), the Four Freedoms Fund (“Mover and Shaker” Award for Bold Peer Organizing), and the Third Wave Fund (“Smashing Silos” Award for Intersectional Grantmaking).
This year’s winners reflect and honor the ways that grantmakers #InvestInMovements, leveraging their own power for systemic change, and sharing decision-making and governance with communities that too often are excluded from the conversation. It’s a special group, one that we wouldn’t have been able to choose without the work of our fantastic Selection Committee.
