The Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) recently awarded 261 academic scholarships to local residents. The amount awarded for 2018 was $817,853. An additional $182,147 in Vocational Scholarships is expected to be awarded by the foundation in 2018, bringing the total to $1,000,000 to support education and career opportunities for Mat-Su residents. The foundation offers academic scholarships for students pursuing college degrees with health or wellness majors, and vocational scholarships to assist students with the cost of training and certifications for jobs in health and wellness fields. Academic scholarships are awarded one time annually and vocational scholarships are awarded throughout the year. The five Mat-Su Scholars Awards Winners are:
- The Jessica Stevens Scholarship for a physician assistant major: Karen Clement
- The George V. Larson Scholarship for a hospital administration major: Aaron Clements
- The Darlene Reed Scholarship for a nursing major: Kaitlin Daly
- The Vivian “Babe” Shaver Scholarship for a behavioral health major: Tamra Harriso
- The Annie Deeming Scholarship for a current high school student: Antonio Rund
- The Ya Ne Dah Ah /K’tl’egh’i Sukdu Scholarship for a graduate-level applicant: Tessa Turner

The Healing Trust · Parthenon Awards
The Healing Trust received three Parthenon Awards from the Nashville, Tennessee chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, which granted more than 200 awards at its 32nd annual Parthenon Awards dinner. The awards are given to honor strategic and creative excellence by Middle Tennessee public relations and communications professionals. The Healing Trust received awards for its newsletter, a blog post written by its Chief Executive Officer about beliefs that lead to burnout, and for a news release that announces its grantees.
The Healing Trust employs five people, including a Program and Communications Officer, Jennifer Oldham, who dedicates a portion of her work to creating and implementing the trust’s communications strategy. The Healing Trust first implemented a communications strategy in 2016. It has received a total of four Parthenon Awards.
