Marcus Johnson

Vitalyst Health Foundation announced that Marcus Johnson will join its staff as Director of State Health Policy and Advocacy. Mr. Johnson comes from the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association, where he served as Director of Policy and Community Health. Prior to that position, he helped to create the Office of Public Health Policy within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. Mr. Johnson brings his experience addressing systemic issues that ultimately affect health. His contributions have led to significant policy and systems change in health care, behavioral health and public health – including the building of effective partnerships between the health care and public health sectors. He currently serves on numerous boards, including the Arizona Public Health Association and Mental Health America of Arizona.

Bettina Alonso and Eugene Keilin

Bettina Alonso and Eugene Keilin have been elected to the United Hospital Fund’s board of directors.

Bettina Alonso is the Executive Director of Development for the Archdiocese of New York, providing strategic direction for the Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Appeal, the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation, New York Catholic Foundation, and St. Patrick’s Landmark Foundation. Prior to joining the Archdiocese, Ms. Alonso was Vice President of Global Development at Oceana and she also served as Marketing Manager for the Embassy of Austria.

Eugene Keilin is the Chairman of Maimonides Medical Center and is the cofounder of KPS Capital Partners and the founding principal of Keilin & Co. LLC. Prior to founding both of these companies, he was a General Partner of Lazard Frères & Co. He has served as Executive Director and later as Chairman of the Municipal Assistance Corporation for the City of New York. In addition, he was Chairman of the Citizens Budget Commission from 1999 to 2002, and remains a member of its Executive Committee. Currently, he is an Emeritus Director of Concern Worldwide, U.S.

Anna Alemán

Paso del Norte Foundation appointed Anna Alemán as the new Executive Director for the Paso del Norte Foundation (PDNF). Ms. Alemán comes to PDNF with extensive experience in the binational nonprofit and philanthropic area. She previously served for 11 years as the Executive Director of the FEMAP Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to support the health, preventive health, micro-lending and youth programs of FEMAP/SADEC in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. In 2013, Ms. Alemán assumed the responsibility of the FEMAP Capital Campaign, raising $10 million in gifts and pledges for FEMAP/SADEC’s new School of Nursing and the expansion and remodeling of Hospital de la Familia.

Mary Craig, Michelle Koury, Sharrie McIntosh and Kathleen Preston

New York State Health Foundation welcomed three new members to its Board of Directors: Mary Craig, President and CEO of the Erie Niagara Area Health Education Center; Dr. Michelle Koury, Chief Operating Officer at Crystal Run Healthcare; and Kathleen Preston, Vice President of Government Programs at the New York Health Plan Association. Additionally, it welcomed Sharrie McIntosh as its new Vice President for Programs. Ms. McIntosh previously worked at The Arnold P. Gold Foundation, and The Lewin Group and New York University School of Medicine/Langone Medical Center. She is a dynamic leader who has deep knowledge of both health and philanthropy.

Olympia Snowe and Kathleen Sebelius

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation announced that the Honorable Olympia Snowe, former U.S. Senator from Maine, and the Honorable Kathleen Sebelius, former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services and former governor of Kansas, have been elected to its Board of Trustees.

Senator Snowe is the first woman ever to serve in both houses of a state legislature and to serve in both houses of Congress. She is known for her work on budget-deficit reduction, fiscal issues, health care, women’s issues, and foreign affairs. In addition, Senator Snowe serves on corporate and nonprofit boards, advisory boards, and as an advisor to Square Roots, a company focusing on maternal and child health. In 2014, Senator Snowe established the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute to help future generations of young women become leaders by raising their confidence and aspirations.

Secretary Sebelius served as the U.S. Secretary for Health and Human Services during the passage and implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Her extensive experience in public office and health care policy include two terms as governor of Kansas and Kansas’ insurance commissioner and in the state’s legislature. Secretary Sebelius is currently CEO of Sebelius Resources LLC, providing strategic advice to private companies, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, and financial investors. She serves on several boards and holds numerous advisory positions, including as a senior advisor to the Aspen Institute, where she co-chairs the Aspen Health Strategy Group.

Secretary Sebelius and Senator Snowe will begin their board terms in March 2017.

Thomas A. Clairmont, Lisa Kaplan Howe, Dr. Randi S. Tillman, and Barbara Wauchope

The HNH Foundation has announced four new Board of Directors members: Thomas A. Clairmont, Lisa Kaplan Howe, Dr. Randi S. Tillman, and Barbara Wauchope.

Thomas Clairmont is the retired CEO of LRG Healthcare, and has been affiliated with the Lakes Region General Hospital since 1971. He also has served as CEO of Franklin Regional Hospital. Mr. Clairmont holds an MBA with a concentration in health care management.

Lisa Kaplan Howe is a Senior Adviser at Public Consulting Group, focusing on health policy consulting for state agencies. Prior to joining Public Consulting Group, she was Policy Director at NH Voices for Health after working as Private Market Manager at Health Care for All and as an associate in Ropes and Gray’s health law department. She is a member of the New Hampshire and Massachusetts bars.

Dr. Randi Tillman has more than 25 years of business experience in managed care, reimbursement, and health economics. She is currently the Dental Director for Northeast Delta Dental. Dr. Tillman is also a member of the steering committee for the New Hampshire Oral Health Plan and a member of the New Hampshire Oral Health Coalition.

Barbara Wauchope is an independent consultant who conducts evaluations and applied research for federal and state agencies and nonprofit organizations, particularly in the areas of child and family well-being and foundation grantmaking. She is the former Director of the Carsey Evaluation Program at UNH’s Carsey Institute.

New Board Members

The HealthSpark Foundation Board of Directors announced the election of the following officers and new members:

George E. Marks, AIA is a Managing Partner at Kramer + Marks Architects in Ambler, Pennsylvania. He is a cofounder of Robin Hood Ventures, a group of angel investors focused on early-stage, high-growth companies in the greater Philadelphia region. In addition to the foundation, he is a board member of Loan Logics, a SAS based automated mortgage quality analytics company in Trevose, Pennsylvania.

Chinwe Onyekere, MPH is an Associate Administrator with Lankenau Medical Center and System Administrator for Graduate Medical Educator for Main Line Health in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. Previously, Ms. Onyekere served as the Executive Director for Health Leads in New York City. She also currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Maternity Care Coalition.

Warren Hilton, Ed.D. is the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs at Kutztown University. Previously, he served as Dean of Enrollment Management for Community College of Philadelphia (CCP). Prior to CCP, Dr. Hilton was the Associate Dean for Student and External Affairs, Adjunct Faculty in the Department of Health Management and Policy Department, and Co-Director for the Opening Doors Health Disparities Research Training Program at Drexel University’s School of Public Health.

Lisa Dickson, CPA was recently the Senior Vice President for Financial and Strategic Planning at Radian Guaranty, Inc. Ms. Dickson is a graduate of the 2009 class of Leadership Philadelphia and previously served on their Board of Directors as Treasurer. She is also a former board chair and treasurer for EducationWorks, and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia.

Joel Johnson, AICP, P.H.M. is the Executive Director for the Montgomery County Housing Authority. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and is a certified Public Housing Manager. Mr. Johnson serves as the Chair for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh’s Affordable Housing Advisory Council, and he is a member of the boards of directors for the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania, Regional Housing Legal Services, and the Housing Equality Center of Pennsylvania.

Courtney McCormick, MPH, RDN, LDN is a Corporate Dietician with Nutrisystem, Inc. She is a member of both the national Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its Pennsylvania chapter. Ms. McCormick is a Licensed Registered Dietician Nutritionist in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Paula Cornwell

The Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City (HCF) has hired Paula Cornwell as its Vice President of Human Capital and Operations. Ms. Cornwell arrives at HCF after a 15-year career at Sprint in diverse roles including operations, sales, finance, and human resources. She has also served in leadership at the CASA Project of Jackson County and The Children’s Place. HCF also recently promoted Program Officer Graciela Couchonnal, Ph.D. to Vice President of Programs and hired Christena Diven as an accountant and Yolanda Thomas as Executive Assistant/Office Manager.

Charles Fields

After seven years at The California Endowment, Charles Fields has accepted a position with the James Irvine Foundation as their Chief of Staff and Planning. Mr. Fields said, “I will of course miss my colleagues and the work at The Endowment, but I am excited for new adventures at The James Irvine Foundation.” He started at Irvine on August 22nd.
