Much work has been done to develop solutions to those problems, particularly using approaches that transcend traditional clinical models. Telehealth is one such solution that is gaining traction at an ever-increasing rate.

Since 2013 annual rural health meetings have become an invaluable forum for discussing how aligned efforts between the federal government and philanthropy can yield better outcomes for communities. Participants gained an increased understanding of the collaborative, sometimes underpublicized, yet often significant work of rural funders—both public and private—and their grantees.

In September, I delivered a keynote speech at the Annual Mobile Health Clinic Conference of the Mobile Healthcare Association, and the occasion was an opportunity for me to learn more about the contributions of mobile clinics to population health and the delivery of safety-net services.
