The report outlines how the Medicaid population in Montana receives behavioral health care from primary care providers and what primary care providers need to effectively address mental health issues.
Leading Boldly, Building Trust: Lessons from a Community-Driven Strategic Planning Process
The Horizon Foundation of Howard County, Maryland believes that everyone in our community deserves to live abundant and healthy lives. But there are barriers standing in the way of some of our residents—particularly people of color—from achieving that vision. We know that for too long, inequitable laws, policies, and practices have held back many of our neighbors. The Foundation recently completed a 14-month long strategic planning process to figure out how to address these systemic barriers in a way that centers the voices of our community members who are most impacted. We realized that our work—what we focus on, who we engage with, and how we make decisions—needed to fundamentally change.
Connecting Mental Health and Wealth in North Carolina
Mental health and wealth are inextricably linked, influencing each other bidirectionally. While many factors contribute to mental health, we know from the social determinants of health that the most foundational are socioeconomic, including income, wealth, and safe neighborhoods. The Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts: January 2024
Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts partnered with Manatt Health to develop a vision, framework, and proposed statewide Health Equity Action Plan that offers an organizing structure, process, and set of practical steps for collectively achieving a racially and ethnically equitable health care delivery system in Massachusetts.
Striving for Equity: Riding to Success with Mobile Health
The Leon Lowenstein Foundation (LLF) is a family foundation established in 1941 with a focus on health, education, and the environment. In 2019, LLF adopted a new focus area for our health grantmaking. Our goal was to develop a strategy that would enable us to make a meaningful contribution to health equity, particularly through enhanced access to primary and preventive health services in disadvantaged communities.

Behavioral Health Strategies
GIH conducted a survey in late 2024 on funder engagement in behavioral health. This fact sheet, based on a sample of 139 health funders, summarizes the current trends, gaps, successes and challenges for funders. It also highlights philanthropy’s continued commitment to behavioral health while also signaling concern about the upcoming funding environment.
2024 Health Equity Survey: Understanding the Changing Landscape
In 2024, Grantmakers In Health (GIH) surveyed its Funding Partners to understand how their health equity work has evolved. The survey consisted of 40 questions including demographic information, program focus areas, partner engagement, organizational strategy, priority population, successes, and challenges. This report summarizes findings from the Health Equity Survey titled, “Understanding the Changing Landscape.”
