Nominations Due Friday, August 30, 2024
Grantmakers In Health (GIH) is seeking nominations for a few positions on its board of directors for terms beginning in March 2025. Self-nominations are welcome.
GIH is committed to better health for all through better philanthropy and is seeking candidates who align with this vision and are committed to advancing health equity. Ideal candidates represent the diversity of health philanthropy across a variety of personal and professional dimensions, including demographics, life experience, professional skills, geographic location, organization size and assets, and type of health funder.
We welcome all applications and this year the board is prioritizing candidates with expertise in finance, fundraising, and communications/marketing. The board is also seeking candidates from the South, Midwest, and Mountain regions.
Qualified candidates must be:
- committed to furthering the mission and vision of GIH;
- an active member of the board or staff of a U.S. grantmaking organization in health philanthropy, or an individual from health or another social sector who can make a valuable contribution to GIH’s work; and
- over the age of 18.
Terms are for three years, with the possibility of renewal for a second term. There are four board meetings annually – three in-person and one virtual. Regular attendance at meetings and committee service are expected.
Nomination Process
Nominators should submit:
- a nomination form, which provides complete contact information for the nominee, nominator, and reference (in the case of a self-nomination), and
- a nominating letter, which presents the nominee’s defining characteristics, summarizes the nominee’s contribution to health philanthropy, and describes why the nominee would be a good addition to the GIH board.
Once a nomination has been submitted, GIH will ask each nominee to submit:
- a nomination acceptance form,
- a resume, and
- a letter of interest with answers to the questions included in the nomination acceptance form.
Begin the process by completing a nomination form and then email a nominating letter to nominations@gih.org no later than Friday, August 30, 2024.
The full board will consider nominations at its November 2024 meeting. Nominees will be notified about the status of their applications in early December.
A description of the responsibilities of GIH board members is available below. Questions about the nomination process should be directed to Jill Shumann at jshumann@gih.org.
