Every community is affected by addiction and mental health issues, and increasingly grantmakers are expanding their approach to health to include social, emotional, and behavioral approaches. Reducing the impact of mental illness, substance use, trauma, and stress requires cross-sector coordination and strong investments in prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery supports.

Bloomberg Philanthropies recently announced a $50 million investment to combat the nation’s opioid epidemic. The new initiative will involve a partnership between Vital Strategies, The Pew Charitable Trusts, John Hopkins University, and the CDC Foundation to support 10 states over the next three years to implement prevention and treatment solutions.

The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health recently published the fourth edition of their comprehensive resource guide to help advocates, policy makers, families, and individuals navigate the national and Texas mental health services and systems.
