Every community is affected by addiction and mental health issues, and increasingly grantmakers are expanding their approach to health to include social, emotional, and behavioral approaches. Reducing the impact of mental illness, substance use, trauma, and stress requires cross-sector coordination and strong investments in prevention, early intervention, treatment, and recovery supports.

The Conrad N. Hilton Foundation has supported a series of FrameWorks’ studies into the communications aspects of adolescent substance use prevention. Two new resources are available that highlight the communications research and provide recommendations for putting the research into action for preventing adolescent substance use.

Thomas Scattergood Behavioral Health Foundation, Philanthropy Network Greater Philadelphia, and United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey recently released a new guide featuring lessons learned from local and national efforts to advance trauma-informed strategies.
