Behavioral Health
About one in four American adults suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. Behavioral health is therefore an essential component of overall health. Over the past few years, philanthropic interest in this area has grown, with specific attention to integrated care that connects behavioral and physical health, children, and the behavioral health care workforce. GIH programming reflects these issues, with a recent focus on the role of behavioral health within health care reform.
- The California Wellness Foundation Providing $7 million in Grants
May 2013The California Wellness Foundation has announced board approval of up to $7 million in grants to be distributed to 45 organizations throughout California. The grants will address the foundation’s eight priority areas, as well as other emergent health issues. As part of their mental health grantmaking, a total of $640,000 will be provided to agencies over the next two years to incorporate housing strategies into efforts to improve the mental health of homeless and runaway youth and youth transitioning out of foster care.
