Connecting Health Literacy and Disparities
The Health and Medicine Division of the National Academy of Sciences recently released a report highlighting the link between health disparities and health literacy for people with disabilities. The report shares findings and recommendations from the workshop, The Intersections Among Health Disparities, Disabilities, Health Equity, and Health Literacy, held in 2016.
The report outlines disparities people with disabilities face in navigating the health care system and receiving care. The report also examines health system barriers that affect the delivery of care to people with disabilities as well as how strengthening health literacy and health care provider communication can improve health outcomes for this population.More Information
