Health Impacts of Immigration Policy on Latino Families

The Kaiser Family Foundation recently released an issue brief that examines the health consequences of current immigrant policy on Latino families. The brief includes findings from focus groups with families across the country as well as interviews with pediatricians about how concerns about immigration are affecting the health and well-being among Latinos.

Researchers found that Latino families face significant levels of toxic stress and discrimination due to the political climate, uncertainty about changing immigration laws, and fear of deportation. The brief also revealed that while some families continue to access health care for children, there were some reports of changes in health care use and decreased participation in programs such as Medicaid.
